This list of additional financial resources is an exciting new resource guide that will continue to grow and change to best support the needs of applicants, borrowers and other stakeholders who live in the six counties that HFLA serves.

Financial Counseling & Education

    Offers professional financial counseling as a free public service for everyone in Allegheny County.

    A network of Jewish financial support services, including HFLA.

    Formerly known as the Center for Women, this program empowers women who are seeking financial wellbeing or other resources in the community through education, networking and advocacy.

    Grants for items that improve the life of someone with a disability (i.e., home modifications, camps and recreational programs, iPads, etc.) Must have a disability.

    An organization who supports single minority mothers and their children who are facing financial hardship but are taking steps to become self-sufficient.

    Resources may vary based on where you live and availability. General basic needs support, health services, counseling, parenting supports, and housing supports are some of the services offered.

    Offering a variety of support for the newest neighbors of the greater Pittsburgh area who are refugee or immigrant families to achieve self-sufficiency, build confidence and feel welcome in their communities.

    An organization who offers many free and low-cost services to individuals in LGBTQ+ communities.
  • Independent Family Resource Group: www.ifrgroup.org  
    Financial assistance (living expenses and tuition) for single parents. Preference given to single parents who also are in school.

    Provides free emergency childcare services for children ages 0-6 for a few hours or a few days based on the needs of each individual family.

    Must be Jewish. Grants for critical needs like utilities, rent/mortgage, medical or dental bills, food, clothing, and other urgent needs.

    Provides a range of services including financial assistance for families in crisis with housing, utilities, transportation, medical, other critical issues, counseling, immigration, career development, and other services. Food pantry, including a kosher pantry available.
  • Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program – LIHEAP: www.pa.gov/en/services/dhs/apply-for-the-low-income-home-energy-assistance-program-liheap.html 
    A cash grant program for utility payments to support families living on low income.

    Offers a variety of programs and initiatives to help revitalize neighborhoods, foster economic opportunity, build capacity and advance equity across Pittsburgh.

    Comprehensive healthcare for all income levels and insurance status, including dental.
  • North Hills Community Outreach: www.nhco.org 
    Food Pantry, transportation assistance, basic essentials, utility and rent assistance and other basic needs services for individuals in northern Allegheny County.

    Offers two loan programs, to meet the needs of individuals needing to purchase assistive technology tools or other related services.

    PA DHS offers a variety of temporary financial support programs to families living on low income, newcomer families identifying as refugees and short term cash assistance support due to a change of life (loss of job, etc).

    Help for water/wastewater bill. A variety of programs for low income individuals and families.

    A private bank that offers free workshop and education videos on credit counseling services, developing financial independence and tips for preparing to purchase a home.

    PHFA offers a variety of home loan and assistance programs for home accessibility, efficiency and renovation needs.

    RTP rebuilds homes for low-income individuals with an emphasis on seniors, veterans, and persons with disabilities. Belief that everyone deserves to live in a safe and healthy home.
