The Hebrew Free Loan Association (HFLA) is a nonprofit organization that makes interest-free loans to residents of Allegheny, Armstrong, Washington, Westmoreland, Butler, and Beaver counties. HFLA observes all state and federal requirements regarding the confidentiality and safeguarding of the personal information of its borrowers, guarantors, donors, and employees.
Federal law requires HFLA to tell you how we collect, share, and protect your personal information. Please read this notice carefully to understand what HFLA does.
HFL will not sell, share, or trade our borrowers’, guarantors’, or donors’ names, addresses, social security numbers, or credit scores with any other entity, nor send mailings on behalf of other organizations. This applies to information received by HFLA both online and offline, as well as any electronic, written, or oral communications. The Rauh Jewish History Program & Archives maintains the archives of HFLA. Approximately every 7 years, HFLA shares the applications it receives — stripped of names and street addresses — with the Rauh Archives*.
HFLA collects your personal information when you apply for a loan or provide a guarantee (cosign) for a loan. HFLA may also collect your personal information from credit bureaus. The types of personal information we collect on our borrowers and guarantors can include: social security number, address, telephone number, income, credit history, and credit scores.
HFLA keeps confidential the personal information regarding its borrowers, guarantors, donors, and employees except to the extent required by law (e.g., in response to court orders or legal investigations) or for our everyday business purposes, such as to process your applications, enforce your obligations, or maintain your accounts (for borrowers and guarantors). This includes reporting loan defaults to the credit bureaus and, where applicable, to guarantors. HFLA also uses prior borrower and current and prior guarantor information to solicit donations. Finally, HFLA may share with legal authorities and the Director of Security at the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh the names and contact information of anyone who communicates with HFLA staff or Board members in an aggressive or threatening manner.
To protect personal information from unauthorized access and use, we use security measures that comply with state and federal law. These measures include computer safeguards and secured files. Our staff is trained to not disclose personal information unless in compliance with this policy.
If you have questions about our privacy policy, please call 412-422-8868 or email info@hflapgh.org.
